Longer games will lead to less interest in baseball. As the owner of a sports collectibles store, I have seen a clear change in the sports interests of kids. More & more of them collect football & basketball cards. Baseball cards, while still popular, are no longer the dominant cards of interest with kids. Many kids say that baseball is boring and that the games take too long.

Thanks for your comment. I do not disagree. But this was, as noted, a satirical piece using the conventional wisdom with respect to game length to make a point about baseball pricing itself out of reach to increasing numbers of fans. And that, in turn, goes directly to your point about the decreasing appeal of the game to kids. Yes, the length of games does not fit into the contemporary era of impatience. But the cost of attending in person is also reducing the opportunity for those among an expanding demographic footprint to identify with the game and its players. Good for the international marketplace, perhaps, but not for the domestic Little Leagues.
